Welcome to the website of FutureLand: Nature Restoration – Challenges and Opportunities for Future Landscape Specialists, an Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership project running from September 2025 to August 2028.
FutureLand brings together universities, regional authorities and experts from across Europe to support the implementation of the EU Nature Restoration Law through innovative higher education. The project explores how future professionals in landscape planning, land use management and environmental governance can be equipped with the knowledge, skills and competences needed to contribute to nature restoration.
FutureLand combines international collaboration, field-based learning and nature restoration expertise across Europe.
What have we achieved so far?
During the first year of the project, FutureLand partners have:
- organised a series of five international webinars on nature restoration and the Nature Restoration Law;
- engaged 374 participants from across Europe;
- developed an interdisciplinary competence framework for nature restoration education;
- prepared a multilingual expert survey on competence needs;
- initiated the development of a FutureLand micro-credential, MOOC and Learning Labs.
Project mission
The mission of the project is to underpin the implementation of the Nature Restoration Law (NRL) by developing innovative teaching and learning interventions in higher education in the context of land use and landscape planning and management.
Project objectives:
- to increase awareness and know-how about the role of Nature Restoration in the fight against climate change, biodiversity crisis and exceeding planetary boundaries, and
- to design innovative learning environments and interventions for higher education, to strengthen the working-life competences to implement the Nature Restoration Law and enhance student employability.
